Eastown Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary medical facility, located in Des Moines, Iowa close to the historic Iowa State Fairgrounds.  We're always welcoming new clients and patients!  For over 80 years in the community, Eastown offers compassionate and thoughtful veterinary care to Des Moines, Pleasant Hill, Runnells, Altoona, Ankeny, Prairie City and surrounding areas of eastern Polk County.

  • Dr. Mark Severs, DVM

    Veterinarian / Practice Owner
    Dr. Severs has practiced at Eastown since February 2006 and purchased the practice from Dr. James Denhart in 2008.  He grew up in Boone, IA.  He graduated from Buena Vista University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  He earned his DVM degree from Iowa State University in 2002.  Dr. Severs is a member of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

    Dr. Severs lives in Pleasant Hill with his wife and three children.  They also share space with a rescue Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Lucy.  He enjoys walks with his family and cheering for the Cyclone athletic teams.
  • Dr. Patty Vogel, DVM

    Dr. Vogel joined Eastown in June 2014.  She grew up on a small farm outside of Ames, IA and knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian!  Patty attended Iowa State University, earning a degree in Animal Science then her DVM degree in 2007.  She moved to California and practiced small animal medicine for 7 years.

    Patty and her husband recently welcomed their third child and decided to move back to Iowa to raise their family.  They have 2 dogs, YaYa and Pup, and one cat, Professor.  She enjoys spending time with her family in her spare time.
  • Dr. Krystal Knutson, DVM

    Dr. Knutson recently moved to the Des Moines area from northern Iowa and joined Eastown in June 2018.  She grew up on an acreage in Forest City, IA.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Iowa State University in 2010.  Continuing at ISU, she earned her DVM in 2014.  She then practiced in rural Iowa for 4.5 years.

     Dr. Knutson enjoys spending time with her husband and two pets, Deacon (yellow lab) and Cami (cat).  She also enjoys catching up with friends, reading and horseback riding.

  • Bubs Gillespie

    Bubs has been with Eastown since 1993.  She graduated early from Des Moines Lincoln High School in 1971 and attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.  Bubs is married and has 3 grown children.  She has many interest including figure-8 racing and collecting Longaberger baskets and cow motifs.  Bubs loves spending time with her family and large brood of 4-legged children as well.

    Areas of Special Interest: Preventive Medicine, Radiology, Rescuing orphaned animals.
  • Rhonda Bolin

    Rhonda joined Eastown in July of 2017. She graduated from Southeast Polk in 1976 and lived in Davenport for 15 years before moving back to Des Moines. Rhonda retired from Mid American Energy in August of 2016. She has a Shih Tzu named Katie. Rhonda enjoys reading, Tuesday morning Ladies Bible Study and taking care of family. 
  • Jennifer Waldon

    Nurse Staff
    Jen began work at Eastown in April 2001.  Born and raised in Des Moines, she graduated from Des Moines East High School in 1997.  After graduation, Jen earned a Veterinary Assistant Diploma from the Professional Career Development Institute.  She is married and has 3 sons.  Jen also lives with a French Bulldog named Mac and a Boxer named Elsa..  In her spare time Jen enjoys going to movies, spending time with her family and taking photos.

  • Ashley Reese

    Nurse Staff
    Ashley started working at Eastown in August 2006.  She has been a veterinary assistant since 2000.  Ashely graduated from Des Moines East High School.  She took Veterinary Assistant courses at Des Moines Area Community College.  Ashley is married and has a two young children.  She also lives with two Toy Poodles named Theo and Dayzee, and a cat named Izzo. Ashley enjoys spending time with family and friends.

    Areas of Special Interest: Dentistry, Radiology and Laboratory Analysis.
  • Tee Rouse

    Nurse Staff
    Tee has worked at Eastown since August 2008.  After graduating from Des Moines East High School in 1996, she performed animal caretaker duties at Eastown and then began training as a veterinary assistant in 1997.  She is married with two children, and has 2 cats named Rex and Lacy and a Mini Goldendoodle named Rudy Doodle.  She loves spending time with her family and friends.

  • Desiree Lint

    Nurse Staff
    Desiree joined Eastown in August 2011.  She has been a veterinary assistant since 2005.  She lives with a Chihuahua named Tuey and her clowder of cats. In her free time she likes movies, music and researching her family tree.

  • Taylor McSwain

    Nurse/Assistant Staff
    Taylor joined Eastown in February 2016. She graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 2012. She lives in Prairie City with her boyfriend and 3 dogs, cat, bird, and fish. She loves being outside with her animals and riding horses. 

  • Taylor Bobst

    Assistant Staff
    Taylor joined Eastown in May 2016. She is attending ISU with a major in Animal Science. She plans to become a veterinarian. She has a dog named Oliver and a cat named Snickers. She loves the outdoor and enjoys hiking, hayaking, fishing and running.

    Areas of special interest: Oncology and Internal Medicine.
